Depends how big your house is, but 2k is an average. The government will give you £400 I think as part of the boiler scrapage scheme. http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk

Ive got a 2 bed semi detached. But tbh the boiler (when it was working) struggled to heat it as it was, so was thinking of gettting something slightly bigger.

Having had mine done about 4 years ago, you need to budget between £1500 and £2000 unfortunately.

If any plumber /heating engineer wants more that £1500 to replace existing , which meens not moving to another location, if you pay any more than £1500 they are rippnig you off, these twats can get a branded worcester boiler big enough for 3 bathrooms and 12 rads for £800 . its a days work changing a boiler and if they tell you otherwise thay are lying,

it will depend on the spec of boiler but the going rate seems to be around £1500 upwards. It will depend on what has to be changed or altered. A good shift should change over most boilers though.

We have a combi and at this time of year it is great as the hot water comes through really quick because the whole boiler is warm as the heating is on. In the summer you have to run off about a gallon of water before any hot water comes through. Being on a water meter, and from Yorkshire, this brings me to tears |

the issue with a combi is normally the flow rate for hot water; they start to struggle when demand come from more than 1 tap at a time. The higher the flow rate the better. |

I think its the valve thats broken that brings in the main burner, as the pilot light is still on and there is voltage to the solenoid.

I have to say I don't like combis and when I replaced mine I kept with the tank system. I don't have a tank in the loft though. The cylinder is a pressurised cylinder fed direct from the cold mains. That way cold and hot water are at the same pressure. Hoked up to a standard mixer shower and you get more or less a power shower.

Carl, do you have to be a plumber to be classed as trade on that site? They won't show any prices without me signing up.

. I believe some combi boilers now come with a small reservoir of water that they keep warm so you don't get this problem.
