Had some problems with the alarm.immobiliser on my MPI which I thought was down to the battery in the fob needing replaced - so popped into Maplin and pick one up.

It's not the fob, its the bloody 5AS ECU. It seems there has been a wee leek and it's corroded the insides.

Gonna have a look and see if I can bypass/turn it off via Emerald tomorrow, if not I'll see if I can bypass it with via the wiring.

When will the problems stop????

Perhaps this could be the answer?

Thanks for that John.

I'll see if I can bypass it with Emerald or by some re-wiring.

If no joy - I'll need to give them a call.

If it's an emerald ecu u can bypas it, or even just swap in a 5as and fob from another rover ( I'm sure) if it's still on MEMS you need to get the ecu unlocked, or a new 5as programmed to suit!

I dried out the unit and cleaned up the connections and it seems to work fine - I'll need to come up with a permanent solution.

I couldn't completely bypass it with Emerald as it still self activated.

I'll need to have a good look over the circuit diagrams and see how to completely remove it.

With a wiring diagram you should be able to easily wire round the alarm box, then remove it, or you could try one of these http://www.minimail.co.uk/products.jsp?q=alarm. My 95 SPi is 5AS and it had the bypass box as standard with the alarm/ imobiliser a factory option at that time.

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Cheers evolotion - I'm sure I've seen you on the M8.... hmmmm. Yeah, rave - good stuff.

Thanx Sprocket - gonna have to get rid or buy a 2nd hand one from eBay or such like.

It's just getting the time to do the rewiring - I'm behind on my Uni stuff and I've hardly spent anytime with Mrs.
