How do gents

I'm currently bolting the roll cage into the mini (Its a hillclimb car being built to MSA regs) and wanted to ask what tensile strength of nuts bolts to use, 8.8 steel is the minimum I think but what about other materials? Is Stainless steel measured to the same spec?

I'm also wondering if there are any rules on what type of head you can use on the bolts? Socket head, flanged hex etc etc.

Any help greatfully appreciated

Check the blue book. Stainless is not suitable for competiton use due to brittleness etc and there is no equivialnt 8.8 spec

from memory the only rules are 8.8 grade or better/equivilant, M8 minimum or 5/16 in imperial. head style does not matter to my knowledge, obviouly if your going through a thicker section you should use a shouldered bolt.
