Can Anyone Tell Me What Is Supposed To Be In The Gap Marked In Pics.

Before It Was Done It Had A Patch Over It So Not To Sure On What Should Be There

It looks to me that the 'repair' doorstep panel is not full length. The genuine A post and doorstep panel is all in one, which would have covered that gap.

Just make up a little piece to fill the gap

Also, google plug welding for the joins, makes a much neater and stronger join

Possibly but possibly a RHS repair panel fitted to the LHS.
They look similar but the amount at the ends differ.

Also, in the photo it looks like it is sticking out sideways too far and the door tread should be narrower at the front than the back so that could be the back is at the front (ie, again, it is the one for the other side). The two repair panels are mirror images, not identical, so can't be swapped from side to side.
