hi there, sorted the timing thanks for all your help, cars running alot better im really glad to have it back and will never sell it again.

the next thing i have to fix is the engine mounts, i went ot minisport today and asked for the best stabiliser mounts, they gave me some solid ones so ive fitted them, it kept chewing up them yellow poly ones.

I asked for another mount or what i could get, and he recommended a bottom gearbox mount (which i bought) which bolts on the opposite corner of the engine to the stabiliser, neer to the diff housing.

I have worked out how it fits, but iddnt want ot remove the bolts, if i remove them will the oil come out??? Do i need to drain the oil first.
If you cant imagine which bolts they are ill get a photo sorted tomorow.

My old 1275 killed the yellow poly mounts in 20 minutes, gotta be a record? - anyway, i replaced them with standard ones, and fitted an ultimate engine steady, and after that it was great! - no engine movement at all.

edit: the ultimate one that goes on the thermostat housing

Never really believed in bottom engine mounts.

I'f you think about where the engine pivots they need to do a lot more work than the top ones.

As above the type that fit on the thermostat housing ar the best , that's the only one I have on my turbo.

I have the solid nylon type bushes in the engine end of the standard steady it's too noisey with them on the bulkhead end so I use standard rubber bushes at the bulkhead end
and an ultimate head steady on both my mini's
and I have little to no movement *smiley*

i only have one engine steady, its the avonbar one that bolts to the water pump, it holds the engine in place very well, but it restricts access to the turbo inlet, it was murder trying to run the air pipe to the turbo, also its no good if you cut to much bulkhead away, i just about got away with it.
any how i can now use the original turbo oil feed, so saved some money there.

my down pipe is now blowing, does this happen due to engine movement?
might try bottom steady, i want one to go on opposite side of turbo inlet,
any advice where to get one ?

In your last post you say you are only running one steady, that bolts to the water pump? If so put the standard one back as well that goes from near the master cylinders to the side of the block, with a combo of both in good order I would be suprised if you engine moves much at all??

which end? at the bulkhead end? the plate under the master cylinders isn't that hard to change, and you can easily make up a new section to weld on the body out of a bit of angle iron.
if its the engine end you can get a kit that picks up on other bolt holes if you have sheared a bolt off in your block and can't drill it out.

blocks fine its the bulkhead bracket that i cut, i think you may have to change the turbo oil feed if using this steady according to what i've read some where on here.
i just want an easy job lol, do you think a bottom steady would cure it ?

If you are using the metro oil feed pipe then yes you will need to change it to a braided flexible one to use the original steady. Most people opt for the braided one as a matter of course I think.

The bottom steady alone will not cure your problems as it is acting too close to the engine mounts to stop the engine moving much.

ah yes good point, well i think i will give the bottom one a try first, even though i do agree with what your saying, its just that im a lazy chuffer, and if it dont do bugger all then i will have to do what you say, the engine is rock solid on the side of the water pump its just the other side, thats why i wont somthing on the drvers side.
