Annoying starting issue

Hello all,

Wondering if anyone has any idea about what could be causing this problem. I'm running a megajolt v3 ignition, and it doesn't like starting. When I flick the switch, it fires straight away but then dies after about a second. Holding my finger on the starter, it will then try to start for roughly 1-2mins until normally bursting into life (although will try and cut out if I don't keep touching the throttle). A couple of times the battery has died and I've needed to jump start it... and this is the weird bit, if I jump it it starts straight away, within a second of hitting the starter. It's a brand new battery. If the car has been running then it takes less time to start, but if it hasn't been used for a day it really struggles to start at all.

Can anyone give me some help?!
