I always though that they were for keeping the water off. After taking mine off I did notice that the first pust of the brakes in wet weather was not as good as it was, but maybe that was because I was expecting it. They have been off 15 years and no problem. I perhaps should say I took them off to help cooling which it did,never faded again. http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk

Do any modern cars have them? I know the wifes Seat Arosa doesnt.

If heat was a problem, I'd modify them to fit hoses with a duct from the front panel. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

The purpose from the factory is to keep water and dirt away. This works well if you use the standard wheels and hub caps.
