Hello guys. Well I've finally got all my engine complete and in the car. Set fuel pressure to 4psi, fully charged battery, got spark and pre primed the oil pump. It started no problem. Now here's what happened after around 10- 15 minutes of the engine running and me titting about with the ignition timing I got it ticking over perfect. Left it running on tick over for a further 10 minutes and dipped the clutch and all was still okay. Then got out the car to admire my handy work and it then cut out!

Silly question, but is there still fuel in the tank? http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk

Most probably fuel related, was it running rich and sooted or flooded the plugs? I seriously doubt it! |

My two cents, check that the spark is actually coming out of the plug lead, shove a screw driver in its end and hold it next to one of the head nuts and check for spark while cranking. Next thing I would check is the needle and seat. Some thing might be blocking it, you'd stil get the right fuel pressure but have nothing actuallt going into the float chamber. "So wat we gonna do tonight Brain?"

how is the pump wired? do you run it via a oil pressure switch? if so make sure you have wired the relay correctly.. e.g pump on when you have oil pressure. |

I personally think it is fuel. My pump is wired via a switch that I operate manually. The car is parked on a slope facing upwards so I think maybe gravity is playing a part. If the tank has run empty would my fuel pressure gauge still give a reading?? |

Right boys here's a mind bender. I finally got the car finished (sprayed, interior in and everything) and decided to take the Mini round my estate just to test it out. I was out for 10-15 minutes and it was driving ace.....until it just cut out. There's loads of fuel in the tank, ignition is fine (there is a spark) I took the plugs out and they where slightly sooty, so I changed these for brand new one's and it still didn't fire. After around 10 minutes I tried to start it again and it spluttered a little then fired up. I could then drive it back up my drive. Personally I think it's fuel related. I'm trying to set it up at a rough guess so I can get it through an mot and then straight to the rollers to get it set up properly. I've got to drive it there though. Any idea's cuz I'm stuck. |

Ah... I may have dropped a clanger. I'm using the breather as my fuel return.
