Yes. i used to drive a mini 1098 with a 12g940 head. N/A
You need to use the head gasket from the head (big bore gasket). No other modification.
watch out fore the exhaust valve overhang.
I had absolutly no torque below 2500 rpm, but from 3000 it was pulling strong.

Good luck

You can just slap it on using a large bore gasket with no modifications. But what eventually happens is that the surface of the block gets damaged around the fire ring by the water. So it's worth doing the mod to the block.

All you need is an 8mm tap down the holes in the block and sink in a bolt and cut off flush. A bit of thread lock or epoxy will seal it nicely.

Put thet large bore gasket on the block, you'll see the two ater holes in question.

No because you can't

I did it with no block or had mods to the water ways, it works fine, but eventually you will damage the block face (I said this above).

Any large bore gasket will fit.

Does that help?

not really will , i wanted to know if anyone has done it ,this chap seems to have done so ,so i was looking for further validation ..

I thought you might be interested in reading this web page:

http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/index...showtopic=33436

perhaps you could tell me why it doesnt work ,you obviously looked into it to be so certain , what problems will the chap in the thread experience ?

With a 998 gasket, the inner fire ring overhangs the combustion chamber, doesn't it?
Great idea!

Robert,

Nothing exotic, just a 1098 road engine with a bit too aggressive porting making the chamber larger than the hole in the head gasket :)

My pleasure. However, Vizard states that he likes 10thou if I remember correctly, but I've done several to approx 1mm and it seems to work.

yes the 2 viz books i have say 60 thou , i ported a 998 head ,and needed 101 thou off to get 10.25:1 , then found the oil hole was already at 80 thou ..
still ,40 thou off will get me to 9.55:1 so not to bad with a 270 cam on a 1098.

i'm not sure how much this 12g295 had removed, but i can say it was definitely to much, as it melted whilst running on the dyno!!
