Has anybody got experiance of silverline tools? I was trying to find some cheep ratchet crimpers and came across a cheep pair branded Silverline and though how good will they be. My only experiance so far is watching Plato drive a blue car round a race track and at the weekend I saw a spade made by them. The spade was crap, the handle did not line up with the head and it was very heavy. For £20 I could have got a very nice spear and jackson or wilkinson sword.

So arSilverline any good or just another cheep crap brand.

i bought some cheap 1mm metal cutting discs off ebay, they are utter crap, they wear down to the chuck in about 15 seconds.

bought some decent ones at about twice the price and they seem to last forever...

Cheap crap in my experience.

I bought my ratchet crimpers from Screwfix, however a look on their site now shows some that are much more expensive than I remember mine being.

Sounds like a bit of a mixed bag really. I have seen some a similar price at Machinemart.

I am just generally interested though as they seem to have come from nowhere and are creeping into all sorts of areas.

Yes, I have quite a few large size HSS drills of their name and they are better than any other "budget" brand (ie, Screwfix) that I have ever used.

But something as basic as a lead light from them was total cr*p. The box it came in would be worth more.

A lot of ebay sellers seem to be pushing the brand at the moment with the offer of a lifetime guarantee.... only it isn't when you read the box....

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Silverline tools are quite fragile, the circlip pliers break easily, not only that but the pins of the circlip pliers are too big to go into the eyes of the circlip.

They look the part but are a waste of money. . .

Not very sunny swanage

we use quite a bit of their stuff at work and to be fair, its all been really good, havent used any of the things mentioned in this thread though to be fair.

Off the top of my head we've got a load of spanners (really good imho, not snap on, but still very nice, especially at the price) a couple of air tools which are more than fine for budget stuff, (and it is budget!!).....

Couple of really big adjustables, (2'+) which are silly cheap are fine, prob not something you would want to live with everyday but fine for occasional use.

lifetime warranty means its not a bad bet if youre not going to be making your living with them.....

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!
