Just wandering how much though TM members put in when choosing which turbo to go for.

I think one missing from your list is: 'Find a car with similar HP to what you want and investigate the turbo fitted'. I think this is where many people start and where the R5 T2 and GT17 came from.

I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

I ticked the first one, but maybe better to put 'pretend to...' in front.

I think its a combo of:

Calculate the CFM and Pressure Ratio you require & read loads of compressor maps.

and..

Pick something based on what other TM members use.

i still havent decided on a turbo for the long awaited 998 build, i have pluged the numbers for various garrett turbos, gt15's, gt17's and t2's etc, but still not found any that sit on the island as id like yet, need to start exploring kkk, mitsi and other manufacturers turbo ranges/maps

i used to just go for whatever turbo i guessed would suit then tried bigger and smaller turbo's in the range till i had a happy compromise of lag and power. Now i have chose a turbo based purely on calculations, sadly there quite uncommon in this country but interesting to see if it works or not lol

I'd like to be able to do all the calcs, but it's beyond me as I have no in depth knowledge of the topic,

So, I let others do the clever stuff, and post up their results, then go with what tehy've found most successful.

To be honest, it was Roberts GT17 thread that made my mind up, and his RR power figures just confirmed that as the correct decision.
