Hey all,
Not 100% sure if i have put this in the correct forum but here it is sorry if its wrong :/

Well i need to find myself some work in the mechanics side of things i have put my CV in every local garage i can think of and a number of other places (Including Ariel!) however as of yet nothings come up.
I really like the idea of working with Minis failing that somewere that works with old skool cars and tuning so my question to everyone today is

Where in the South West can i find somewere like this if anyone knows of any please help?

Many Thanks
Arran

Hi Arran,

If you 'google' Apprentice training scheme, you will see companies that are in this government backed scheme. They receive a grant & then provide apprentiships.

If you can't find a company which deals with Minis/classic cars you could always have an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering with a large company like Network Rail which pays good wages so you can afford to renovate/modify Minis etc in your spare time.

In the middle of a ND in Motor Sport i finish it this year and then next year i am on to a foundation degree in race car technology, an Oxford brooks course that i will be studying at the college i am currently at.

So it really is more a part time job i am after to gain extra experience alongside my course.

Unfortunately you'll most likely have to be willing to work for free. When I was at college I wanted work experience but also wanted paying and ended up getting neither. *oh well* In heinsight, working for free whilst I was at college was an option now it isn't.

Offer your services for free, and you'll be amazed how accomodating companies will be. If you get on well there, they may offer you a part time (paid) job. You may have to get a part time Job on the weekend/ evenings in the mean time.

Saying you have worked for free to gain experience and learn is also a very credible thing to put on your CV when you're applying for a job in the future. *wink*

Gaball i did 4 year motorsport engineering degree at Swansea Met, and in my final year i started working for free with a race suspension company. i know it sucks not getting paid, but as a result they offered me a full time engineering job before i finished uni.

I wish i had got with a company sooner on in my degree makes the work a lot more interesting.
seeing that your gonna be going to Brookes (my neck of the woods)there are loads of race team in this area.

As everyone is saying, voluntary work is a good step. I did some helping out with a race team whilst i was on my HND Motorsport course and this led to a full time job at the end of it where i have been for almost six years restoring f1 cars.
