You can make a jig using an old set of forks and a brake caliper.

Stick the forks in a vice upside down holding on the steerer tube.

Use an old brake caliper with the sliding type of brake pad, and fit them with the blocks facing outwards. These can be moved in/out and up and down as you need to be used as a guide. The only problem comes if you're doing a rear wheel! lol

Not sure if you've built a wheel before Neil, but make sure you tighten the spokes to the same torque until they start to feel taught, then get the wheel straight, then make it round. Periodically remove the wheel from the stand and put some weight on it to make sure everythings settles as you go.

When making it round always tighten and loosen the spokes in pairs so the wheels stays straight. Sorry if you already know this though! lol

best way to do this is tighten all the nipples until the end of the thread has just disappeared into the nipple, then do one or two full turns on ever nipple until the spokes have some tension in them. then true, remove egg, de stress, then repeat until you OCD has settled.

smiled ever time i wrote nipples :) at work we have a draw labeled nipples must be 1 or 2 thousand nipples in one draw! hope you have a nice image in your head now :)
