I know these attachments are a sight for sore eyes :-
please note. this was the previous owners butchering :p
anyway
ive had my suspicions that the car had previously been turbo'd

Ive uploaded some pic's of the bulkhead which does look like its been cut out for space for the turbo
but not very deep/ even but sort of looks like you can squeeze a turbo between the block and the bulkhead but not very roomy

wondering what to do about it?
do i leave it and carry on the rebuild and run on low boost
as i am on a time limit (L2B)
and i also have no welding skills but can do a mean solder :p
what do you guys think?

ideally i would replace it but dont really have the funds or skills to do so haha

any advice would be great!

O dear.
Do you have any daylight photos?
Personally i would cut it all out, do it properly and never worry about it again.

i would definitly do that again, vosa and that getting stricter and that would certainly raise there suspicions if seen as bulkhead mods require an iva legally now but if its neat you will most probably get away with it, but that isnt so neat :S

Either take the car to a reputable Mini conversion specialist or find someone who has the skills to do the conversion professionally for you.

If it's not important to have the conversion done immediately, I would say put the head back on so you can attend meets/shows etc. with the car.

If you want to do the conversion yourself, you can buy a MIG welder, then buy some 'How To' books/DVDs from companies like Frost Restorers Equipment www.frost.co.uk, call 01706 658619 to get a catalogue.

Mini Spares www.minispares.com call 01707 607700 to get a catalugue. They sell 'How To' books/DVDs so you can see/learn what you need to know & how to do DIY Mini conversions of the bodywork & engine etc.

When you attend meets/shows you can normally speak to the owners of converted Minis & find out how they carried out their conversion & whether they had any problems & how much it costs etc. before you 'dive-in'. It's a good incentive booster!

If the Mini hasn't got an MOT certificate, or has only a short time remaining before an MOT test is due, I would say have an MOT test ASAP & give the car a good service so you will have a roadworthy car to attend meets/shows with.

its got a long mot (december)
so thats not yet an issue *phew*
ill still whip the engine out and find out what parts ive got lower down
and how strong they are..
the piston rings need replacing anyway so yeah :)
i'll see how it goes
i've always wanted to give welding a go but i'm abit nervous cutting a large chunk out of the bulkhead and having never welded, welding it back together Lol!

not sure what the last owner was trying to achieve as surely if you were going to go for it youd go for it abit more than a small ish chunk
or maybe it was to try and keep the shell from twisting?

Give it a go your self

Do plenty of test weld on bits of scrap metal before you touch it, keep going untill you get a nice weld your happy with, if its not good welding you can simply grind back and go again :0)

From that photo it is very difficult to gauge how good or bad the quality of the bulkhead box is. It is certainly not an Avonbar type box fitted, but if it is of sufficient quality and the turbo you want to fit fits in the space then why change it?

Is a bit knobbish *surprised**surprised*

If everyone thought that way we would all be sat in caves waiting for something to break! Perhaps that's wot you do all day, but the rest of us are out & about sorting out some turbo upgrades *happy**happy*

Must dash... I've got to order some more forced induction hose 8-)

twat.

whats wrong with the box then?
is it welded in to a good standard?
does the turbo fit in without any issue's?
if there is nothing wrong with this one then what is the point in refitting a larger box?

Laurence, I have to agree with the above. Many of your current posts are unhelpful and quite often propagate misinformation that this site has spent years trying to dispel.

Not everybody has the time, budget or skills to create perfection. I am sure you have a lot to offer, but please think before you post.
