SE is just a spec level, but TBH not much difference between the "Sport" and SE.

Sport just gets you fancy bumpers. SE you get electric rear windows. Thats about the gist of it.

the seats differ between the sport and SE and the suspension is lower but i doubt either would make much differance to the overall weight

check the weights aren't different for auto and manual?

On some BMWs the M Models (and sometimes the Sport models) had suspension parts in ally, where the std parts are steel..

100kg is a pretty big difference though.

although if the suspension components are a bit lighter, and the sport wheels are presumably lighter, plus different bumpers.. It could be possible I suppose?

Too many projects!

They either have ally suspension or they dont.... M cars are different to std models (like an M3) they often has totally different suspension components.

Why do you need a car over 1600kg?

Not wanting to take this too far off topic,... but that's not the case,

The E30 M3 uses either steel or ally wishbones, depending on the year. These are identical to the steel ones on the std cars. In fact later sports and tourings got the ally arms fitted. As the ally ones are very expensive, plenty of m3 owners run steel arms & change them regularly (if they see a lot of track use)

The E34 also had interchangable steel/ally front syspension arms. Some models including the M5 had the ally, basic ones had the steel.

It's probably less common on newer models though...

Too many projects!

Back to the original question.

Could the heavier kerbweight you have found be for the quattro version rather than the 2wd?

They dont make a quattro in a 1.9 Tom

The A6 se 2.5 quattro is 1730kg

I would consider the A4 1.9 quattro but not many were made and prices are high

Wishbones on an E30? They don't have any. The closest thing to a wishbone is the track control arm. I have a 318i which has ally track control arms. I have never seen a steel one. And they only cost €90 for a new ally one with the rear bush and both balljoints fitted

New caravan is a smidgin under 1400kg, ideally you want to be around 85% of the tow cars weight as they are harder to tow and easier to crash than you average car trailer

Well seeing as even the BMW parts program (TIS) refers to them as wishbones, I'm not fussed.....I can go and take some pics of the steel ones off my M3 if it helps? FWIW Steel are currently around £45, ally ones about £250.

Back on topic.
If you need it to be over 1600kg, can you spec the sport with a couple of extra options? (like the rear electric windows etc) 100kg might be a lot of money in options though!!

Too many projects!

I'd have suggested going for the 2.5 quattro but it is thirsty in comparison to the 1.9, particulalry with the mileage your doing.

you'll pay top dollar for a 1.9 quattro A4 - a rare beast
