Any ideas on getting this out in one piece.

I would like to remove it and re-use it as its nearly new.

I'm fitting my roller drops so it needs to come out.

Cheers

Some sort of slide hammer?

Don't reuse that. If you remove it, bin it. It's hard to remove it without harming as well, also, it's full of debris.

I guess you would have to force out the rollers and then collapse the bearing sections in on themselves. maybe get in carefully with a dremel.

you need a blind/internal puller

or you can drill a few holes behind it and use a punch to remove, then epoxy up the holes or tap and put a grub screw in, theres a thread on here somewhere about just this i think?

does anyone know what happened to dave (danboy) on here, years ago he said he would make me a puller up that can do both transfer bearings, but he seems to have dissapeared off the forum?

oh, forgot, another theory is to fill the hole with grease, them get a piece of wood the same diameter of the idler shaft, and hammer it down hydruallicing (is that a word) the bearing out, but ive never tried that way and dont want to take responsibility for a snapped transfer case

good luck

I watched steve (benross) remove my old one in about 3 min! looked like he had done it a few times lol he drilled 2 holes in from the back, used a small punch to knock it out then taped the holes and put some grub screws in with locktight. genuies!

This is how mine has been done too.

Cheers Guys

Minispares North have run out of them that’s why I thought I'd ask if you can get them out in a one piece. And they did mention that they would not have any new ones in for quite some time.

Always thought recycling was a bad idea.

Like the Benross Idea. Going to give that a go I think.

Right I'm off into the garage to get the little bastard out.

Dont try the grease/hydraulicing method or you will get a faceful of grease as it squirts past the needle rollers !

You can try putting the casing in the oven, putting face down on the floor and tapping the back with a soft hammer, and if your lucky it might fall out.

Ive had success with motorbike casings using this method.
But my idler bearing had been sat for a long time and i had to use a blind puller.

The grease/hydraulic method only works when it is a blind bush and you have a close fitting drift. On anything else the pressure takes the easy way out, usually up your nose and down your shirt.

You could try it the Guessworks way. Heat the area at the back of the bearing with a blow torch then twat the casing edge on a block of wood until it falls out.

Perhaps this may be why certain gearboxes unexplainedly leak?

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

is it wise to get long thin bits of ally that hot though?

has anyone checked them for straightness after?

may not affect them, but worth checking i guess?

Id want to check them.
May have fooked it completely. Different metals in the bearing expand at different rates, so may break each other as they expand.
