i fancy using a facet pump (as the ecu can control power to it), which pump should u use?

? far as i know every one just uses 12v high pressure pump it needs to run a certain bar pressure or you'll be stuffed, i cant remember the psi rating do a search to find out

why would you want the ecu to control the power what are the benefits ?

My sister is so fit I won't show anyone her picture

Lake District

The standard Metro Turbo pump gives 36psi.

Staffordshire or Northamptonshire

No you cant use a facet as they only put out about 4-5 psi of pressure. You need an injection style pump capable of putting out higher pressure than the boost you plan to run.

The difference is in the type of pump:
Cyclic (actuator) type pumps use a solenoid to drive fuel, ususlly by lifting a diaphragm against a spring which then delivers even pressure. Injection types usually use something like a turbine or "roller-vane" to provide very high constant pressure.
Non-injection types go "clip-clop, clip-clop" when running, while all turbine pumps go "whizzzzzzzzz". its the noise you can usually hear on the outside of a car about to start.

As for the ECU controlling the pump, i think thats a red-herring, brought about by the metro/era wiring diagrams. ECU does 2 things only - measure pressure+rpm and then open a valve at the apropriate point (to boost the boost), and supply the naff on the dash boost gauge on the metro dash.

Have fun!
Ed.

i'm using a megasquirt2 with the relay board, it simply controls the power to an electric pump, but looks like i'll have to use a metty turbo pump as the leccy ones dont produce enought pressure.

aha! sorry, when you said ecu, the thought was the old metro one. Still think you need a turbo pump, or an injection fuel tank (see elsewhere on the board).
Sorry for the confusion,
Ed.

so is the metty turbo one the only choice then?

it works fine so why mess with it??

as you have an estate an injection tank is out so looks like you need to go with a metro pump.

there are other very similar pumps available on things like gte astras and mi16 405 peugeots, basically anything with injection that has a pump that is not in the tank should do for you.

ang on, why do u need a 36psi pump if u only need 3.5 from the regulators output to the carb?

You only need 3.5psi as a base setting but that 3.5psi is the pressure the fuel needs to be _ABOVE BOOST_

So when you are boosting at 20psi your fuel pressure controlled by the reg will be 23.5psi.............

See what I did there*happy**happy**happy*
