Breathers should either go into a catch tank or have pipes and/or filters on them.

In addition to the answers above, in the 3rd photo, there is a bolt missing that holds the breather cannister onto the transfer housing.

On our metro van, I ran both of the nipples on the turbo into a t piece, then from the t piece to a bleed valve and from the bleed valve to the actuator. This is probably over kill. The reason I questioned it is because Metros don't have the connection in that place. So either the Metro head was modified to suit a Mini (quite an easy job) or you don't actually have a Metro (Turbo) head but a 1275 Mini head. Not that it makes much difference, there is nothing special about the Metro Turbo head apart from sodium exhaust valve stems which most people don't think are necissary but it's allways nice to know the history of what you have bought.... But again, it is easy to modify a Metro head and add this connection. To tell a Metro Turbo head, the safest way is to take the rocker cover off and measure the diameter of the valve stems - factory Metro turbo exhaust valve stems are larger than the inlets. But it's no big deal, the differences are minor, it's just a case of knowing what you have got. Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ??? |
