Hello i am a newbie here, i have a mini mayfair which i am currently restoring, and a mk2 escort . I find the whole engine choice in a mini a nightmare everyone says different things!. I am going to be using my mini at my sisters wedding in 6 months so i have a deadline!. I currently have a totaly standard 998 engine with 50k on it. I am wanting to put in either a 1275 or a metro turbo. I am put off the metro turbo as i dont fancy cuting the bulkhead as my shell is now in paint!. I am hoping to go down the route of turbocharging a 1275. Please can any1 with the knowhow or experiance tell me how difficult is this?
what all do i need to strengten the egine? any ideas of cost and time?. I am considering just slotting the 998 in if it will be an long involved process as the deadline gets closer . Any help greatly appreciated, thx matt

could be done in 6 months if you have the time to spend on it, cost and how strong the engine needs to be depends on what you want from the engine.. power, boost your be running, using an intercooler, how high you will be reving it to do you have any idea of these?

i built my engine, removed my old engine welded bulkhead box, fitted new engine fuel lines, wiring had it running in 1.5 days on my own, so 6 months should be an easy deadline , search for mirage manifiolds, they fit a turbo down the back of the block with out body mods

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

If I were doing it again. Mirage & T2/T25 would be they way I'd go.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Have a read and see what other people gave done so you can first decide what you want from it.

Phils site is a good starting point.

search for the "20 hour build"

essentially, with all the right bits, he converted a car from carb to turbo in 20 hours

it was a 998 in that example, but its pretty much the same for a 1275

"Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun"

"did you know you can toast potato waffles?"
