Right, HD Cables, i dont understand....

They range from cheapo's like £5 (like the one i got from Tesco, crap) to the £70/80 margin, what defines a good or crap cable?

I have a 42" Philips, 1080P

Can anyone recommend a HD Cable for me to get? I need one for the DVD Player for it, but i want a descent mid range one, as the one i have is about is clear as a scart.....

Needs to be a long one as i have just had delivered;

Also need one for My XBox.

Cheers, Jamie *happy*

To be fair just get a cheap one.

HDMI cables transmit digital data and the devices have error correcting in them.

I have a cheapo one, the difference between a scart and HDMI is like night and day, you sure you have it set up correctly? You could always get this http://www.wireworldcable.com/products/91.html only $1000 for 3ft of cable!!

Correct, with the old s-video, scart, etc the analogue signal could degrade if you used crap cables but with digital it wont.

Yep. I used to spend £10-£20 on scart cables, I have bought 2 HDMI cables, total cost £2 delivered. Can't tell the difference between a fancy one (£30) I borrowed from a mate to see if they were worth it.

Cheers for all the links,

The link explaining the cables really puts it in its place, that my Tesco cable isnt that bad shocking, maybe ill just buy one non supermarket branded Cable off of eBay,

Its not as bad as having a scart, but its not a min a picture as it should or people make it out to be, if i get the $1000 cable, you want foot of it ? i only need 2 haha *smiley*

And cheers for your message John, thats the main thing i was after, if there is a difference between the higher end leads to the £2 ones *smiley*

Only other thing is one for my Xbox now for the TV.

My line manager went and spent silly money on a hdmi cable. I then indirectly (as i'm not a straight speaking northerner) pointed out that there is no need for cables carrying a digital signal as you dont get the degradation like analogue.

It is. Just sturgeo's punctuation makes it read a bit funny.

I have had problems with a cheap cable, when I was watching a 1080p film. Stuff that is of lower quality won't be a problem, as the bit rate is slower, like games and sky.

For the difference in price, I would say get something like a belkin cable. Some of them are labelled 1080p compatible. Ebay do them reasonably cheaply.
