Hi, im thinking of moving my intercooler from the top of the engine bay to the very bottom behind the 3 windows in the lower valance of the clubby front, this allows the radiator to sit directly behind my grille however this leads to 2 questions

1. Will the added length of intercooler hose cause me noticeable lag issues?

2. the radiator will now sit above the intercooler – this will then sit just below the slam panel, am I going to have problems with water flow as the upper most section of the radiator will be slightly above the thermostat housing.

Thanks.

1. no

I really like the look of Nics setup, I'm going to try and rig up something similar using a VAG 20vt intercooler.

Mark, what's the reason for the shuffle? The current setup looks pretty sweet!

Make sure you have the cap, or a bleed at the highest point of the coolant system, this will make it possible to get the air out nice and easily

I found that I could notice more 'lag' with longer pipework, however, what you have now looks quite long (phnarr phnarr!!), just try and keep it as short as possible

cheers

im just trying to make the most of the air flow - the rad although at the front isnt fully in the air flow and the IC is a bit high and only the lower section sits behind the grille.

also i have just been checking and i think i can run close to the same amount of IC hose as the current set up.

not the first time I’ve heard that *hehe!*

Yeah, makes sense that i could have issues with bleeding it.. will have to have a think about this.

Your setup is really good especially like the air ducting, something i will try and incorporate in the new set up

Mark I think your setups good as it is,

do you really need to improve it? what are the IAT's getting to?

can you gust move the cooler forward and ad some ducting.

or make a duct to carry the air from the grill to the intercooler, it doesnt need to be as big as the cooling area itself

a bit of plastic and a stapler would do it.

the setup move is not just for the IC benefit, wanted to get the rad in a better position.

I havent read the IAT's but as its a big cooler i dont think it will be causing me any issues in the current position.

Can't really see from the picture. But making a cowl/duct so that air has to go through the rad rather than being able to go around it, will help a lot.

after spending a few hours in the garage and listing to the advice on here i think im going to just shift the rad to the right to get it in the centre and add a cowl.

looks like a fair amount of work to shit it all about for little that cant be gained by some ducting.

cheers chaps.
