Can anyone tell me what the notation -31 means, please ? I bought a Collins -31 RS Turbo actuator which gave me nearly 20lbs boost until I changed the spring,as it was an alloy one which could be dismantled.

-31 ia just the end of the garret part no (actually -0031 iirc)

the -31 starts opening at about 7-8 psi

Thanks for that, just spotted a similar answer on another thread. I must have been sold something else because, as I said, I got a mental 18=20psi on mine at first and unfortunately its not the first occasion that I have subjected the engine to this sort of boost.Does make the pistons creak a bit !.

Generally speaking, I was told that the last part of the Garrett actuator part number is a dash and a number, which if you divide by two gives you the operating poundage of the actuator.

A -18 is a 9 psi, a -24 is a 12 psi and a -31 is a 15-16 psi.

The Cossie T3 9 psi actuator part number is 430099-18 if this helps *smiley*

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

Yes, and then is operated to about twice that on the Fords by an electronic bleed valve (Amal valve) controlled by the ECU.

BTW, the reason I believe Richard is correct about dividing the last part of the number by two is because the last part of the number is actually the fully extended pressure in inches Hg (mercury).
31 inches Hg is 15.2psi, etc.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Ive a couple of 15psi actuators here, last used on my RV8 TT some years ago.

They were only a year or two old then, so old, but almost new lol
