I,m getting thoroughly p****d off with this megajolt thingy.

With a LOT of help from the members of this forum and some proper soldering from me I thought I had cracked it.

The car ran fine for a 45 mile run plus some ragging about on Sunday, but cut out shortly afterwards. Re-connected all the clockwork ignition and drove home. Car then started and ran fine on MJ!

Went out today and performed various "improvements" and warmed it up on MJ -it ran fine for about 10 mins and then cut out, Re-started at once and cut out seconds later, but will not re-start,.
Runs fine on clockwork.

What the hell am I doing wrong, please ?

perhaps check the following

do you have a live feed?
do you a feed from your pip and saw
do you have a spark at your plugs
is your mj speaking to your laptop?

Intermittent faults are the absolute worst to track down.

But first be 100% sure it is MJ related and not something conventional, ie, just because you swap it back to clockwork and it starts, is it something related to the engine cooling down while you are fiddling about swapping it back like a vapour lock in the fuel going away.

Is it heat related, ie, has it ever happened when cold. Electronics play up in heat usually (a common test on PCBs is to spray a "freeze" spray over key components to track down faulty items).

Is there any other happening it can be related to, something that you wouldn't think was related ???

Finally, next time it fails, immediately connect the laptop and crank the engine and tell us what the laptop is showing - that will show things like a dodgy VR pickup etc.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Could well be the VR sensor shifting about and causing a poor signal to be generated.

As Rod says, take note if whats going on when the MJ cuts out, such as engine temperature, and whether the MJ still responds on the laptop screen.

As the engine completely cuts out it won't be the megajolt unit at fault, as the EDIS unit would carry on working in limp home mode if the megajolt or PIP/SAW had failed in some way. So, you are looking at a fault with the VR sensor, coil, EDIS unit, or any of the wiring associated with just these three items.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
As I can swap back to clockwork in less than a minute(really,as everything is stiil there, just connect the LT and swap the plug leads) I doubt it is a non associated cause.
May be heat related, but it did an hour or so on Sunday followed by some pretty hard use in demo mode without stopping. The first time it stopped I was cruising at about 65 and it just cut dead.
Will try to do the laptop check asap, but metroturbo may have it in that it may be the coilpack or Edis. The VR sensor is solidly mounted, properly gapped and new.Im suspicious that it might be my normal problem -my wiring -so its down to a detailed check -AGAIN !

Do you have a heat sink on the edis module?

Where is your coil pack mounted?

My money's on the coil pack - sounds a classic coil type failure!

The Edis is mounted, with all the other electrical components except the MJ unit , on a piece of 3mm alloy about 600mmx200mm(includes fuse boxes, relays, alarm siren etc etc etc,
Coil pack and Edis are side by side.
Anyone got a spare coilpack to try out Scruffy,s theory, please ?.

Personally I think it is bonkers using scrap yard parts for ignition, although I do it myself.

New coils can be had for about £30 off eBay.

I have an EDIS unit that you can borrow.

I think you are right Paul.
I have two spare Edis units but thank you for the offer, so when I raise enough interest to go out and start again I will try these and then the wiring and then maybe buy a new coil pack
