I'm looking to convert the standard mini rocker swiches to some leaver switches, and just wondering what current the lighting circuit draws, so I can get the correct ampage switch.

Cheers

You could calcullate it from the wattage of the bulbs divided by 12, but its probably easier to put an ammeter on the circuit and read off the figure.

for main/dip, might be worth using relays if starting from scratch?

Definitely convert to relays, with the added bonus of being able to use more powerful bulbs if you do the wiring right.
