After taking my head back to my welder, he called me today to say its cracked along the face under a valve seat and it not repairable...That cost £250 to get dry decked aswell. :(

Has anyone got one that they are willing to sell?

John Kimmins may be worth a call. I'm sure he has a nice stockpile of heads and would probably be willing to sell a casting. Even if he doesn't, he probably has the best contacts

Matt - thats bad news fella, if all the chambers have cracks in them then we don't use them - one cylinder only though is worth recovering - I have 2 bare castings - both 1200RS

Ive spent the last couple of hours pissing around trying to work out if it is actually cracked or not. Ive taken the valve out and I can't see any cracks.

I was told the crack opens up when it heated up, but im not sure if my welder is using it as an excuse because he can't get the rest of the welds to seal, and doesn't want to admit he's fucked up.

Is there any quick and easy ways to check for cracks without dye penetrant?

put some food dye in some petrol ,pour into head (seal other end) then put a bung in the hose and put a shraeder valve in it ,and then pump it up with a compressor to about 40 psi ?

Thats a nice idea Robert, but because the head is still not sealed (hasn't finished welding it up) it isn't air tight so air escapes from the other holes! Its bloody nightmare!

I did think about filling the inlet exhaust port with some kind of dye and see if it makes its way through to the head chamber...not sure if it will without pressure though.
