I've always been impressed by the engineering and precision that goes into these. One tiny variable wrong and it could be a disaster... On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

I have a soft point for the Space Shuttle, as it all started when I was a kid. I remember watching the very first launch, and I remember watching the Challenger launch as it all went wrong.

i can beat that, i have a photo i took whilst visitling a theme park a long time ago , over the PA a voice informed the populus that if they loked in a certain direction they would see the shuttle take off in a about 2mins, so i got the camera out, and low and behold way in the distance miles i caught a flame trail and could make out the white body,

Might have to watch that, i'll echo all the "Amazing" comments - some of the footage on youtube is incredible. The sheer speed of ascent.... Seen here from an external camera: [url http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQW-hgpLbeM&feature=related /url] |

Its always pleases me to see that serious organisations such as NASA still keep things real. What with all their procedures and military precision like operations. You have to giggle

It was Enterprise which did the tour. I find few refferencies to it being seen overhead, but none at Manchester airport, lol, but there are plenty refferncies to the Shuttle car park at Manchester airport. Thats not to say it didn't land there Stanstead perhaps? http://www.fhr-net.co.uk/travel_news/1269/..._shuttle_visit/ Edited by Sprocket on 3rd Apr, 2010. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

Edit - Typo. saturn 5 is still there, and its still bleeding massive!!! i was over there in feb this year, and watched sts130 go up from about as close as you can get off the actual site...... 'twas a night launch as well, so was absolutely fantastic to watch!!!! My missus managed to get talking to some relative of one of the photographers at the hotel and got him to email a whole load of the photos from really close up!!! Really really special!!! And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers! |
