The time has come to look at fitting the fuel tanks to my turbo project. The car was originally running an spi tank, but I have uprated the left hand tank for an mpi item. The plugs etc are all the same so there shouldn’t be any problems there.

I also have an ‘S’ right hand tank that I will be fitting.

I have had a quick look this evening and what I propose is this. I will run the mpi tank with the outlet/return as standard.

The S tank has an outlet at the base and a breather at the top. My plan is to link the tanks by adding an outlet to the base of the mpi tank. I will then run a hose direct, base to base for each tank.

I then plan on adding a ‘t’ piece to the mpi breather, allowing me to keep the mpi breather system, but also linking the tanks direct via the breather system as well.

My theory is that the left mpi tank should then pressurise both left and right tank. Basically a line will link the tanks at the base of the fuel, and one at the top of the tanks for air.

Does anyone see any reasons on why this wont work? Or a different way of doing it?

Many thanks

that will work ok,

I'd say join the vents at the top of the tanks together, and put a t peice in to vent to the outside of the car,

If you vent both when you fill up one tank the tanks will blow out the vent one side and suck the other side.

I thought I'd revive an old topic rather than start a new one.

I have an MPI tank and a Cooper S 5 gallon right hand tank. I plan on adding an outlet to the bottom of the MPI tank and using a balance pipe between the 2 as Dan suggested.

What I want to know is the best way of doing this, having spoken to someone who has had a tank expolde I don't want to weld in a fitting. He suggested using a bulkhead fitting, would this work
and if so what would I need to use to seal it?

Regarding the breather system I have never used the check valve from the MPI system, I'm going to run mine like this

It's meant to stop the fuel being syphoned by the breather when parked on a slope.

I ran something similar to this 18 years ago when I first had fuel injection. KAD brazed some fittings in for me so just ran a link to the right hand tank. Speak to Colin in a week or so's time when he is back form holiday for some tips.

If you are worried about the tank exploding, fill it with water and then weld it.
