Got outbid by 50p on some turnplates again last night :(

Then had a half baked thought before nodding off

Can you adjust the castor with the shell on axle stands with the wheels off the floor?

Just mark the steering wheel where 20 degrees is in each direction and let rip...

Im thinking 'why not' ?

What say you lot?

i think you'd have to have the whole car lifted level to begin with - front and back, and make sure the axle stands are under the arms so the cars weight is compressing the suspension as if it were on the ground.

Obviously the tyres dragging on the floor will influence the accuracy, but you can measure it with pretty reasonable success with the car on the floor. I do it with a spirit level and some trigonometry in any case, so the accuracy I achieve probably isn't good enough to warrant buying turn plates.

ive been doing it the same way tom, just chalking the angles on the garage floor, measuring, adjusting, wheeling it back and forth and re-checking, but its quite inconsistent and time consuming to get spot on

ive found myself doing quite a few cars recently too, and being young feel the proper stuff would be an investment, so always trawling ebay for some on the cheap, no luck so far though!

I have turn tables, but often find it quicker to have some ally box section, cut and welded at 20 degrees, run this down the sill and against the wheel, turn the wheel and till it's at paralell, or for camber gain the good old cross on the floor
