It seams like there are number of us out there who want to get there hands on a metro challenge gear set. In all reallity the chances of finding one in good condition is very slim. After speaking to Jack Night, I know that if we put an order in for around 15 of these gear sets, they will remanufacture them for us, and also make a few sets extra for spares. If anyone is interested, let me know if I get enough interest, then I will place an order with Jack Night. I will require a depostit however, as I don't really want to be stuck with 14 spare sets of gears!!!

I think an estimate of cost is required jimster as i dont want to say I will have a gear set without having the nessassry fund to put my money where my mouth is.

I'll contact Jack Night, and get a rough price.

These are the ratios of a challenge box.
2.31 1.57 1.19 1.00
vs the std box (helical)
3.30 2.10 1.350 1.00
and most SC box's are
2.54 1.73 1.22 1.00

When I get a price from JK, I'll let you know, but I'd guess around the ?500. but that really is a guess. But a std ratio box is ?400, so maybe a bit more, your guess is as good as mine at the moment.

I'd have said it'd be exactly the same as the current price.... as they already have the tooling and drawings.... *wink*

Ok just spoken to pete all five gear boxs are to say the least knackered. However he "thinks" that it might be possible to salvage a box out of them.

I will let you know when we have a more in depth look tommorrow

The advantage of these is a longer 1st and 2nd gear, so if you have a powerfull turbo engine, you will be able to get quicker 0-60 times and better 1/4 mile times, (we hope!)
There doesn't seem much interest in these so far? I've got a gearset for myself, although it's not in top shape. I think I'll give up on this idea.

Bit of a bad time really jim, just before christmas. May be worth looking into in the new year.

I should be further on with mine by then so might be wanting a set. Might be worth seeing what a smaller run would cost a set since they have all the tooling anyway, cant be that difficult for them.

Im interested. After chrismas would be slightly better for me.

Do you really need 15 people before jk will make any sets to these specs?

I would normally be interested, but I feel that the ST ratios are close enough. I would presume that with a turbo you had a wider power band as well.
I am interested, but not yet :)
And in addition to this, some clever guy on this very page told me that the Tran-X gears are superior in quality over the JKD.

Trannex wanted paying for a minimum batch run of 20 before they would look into making them...

Would the tranex gears be the same sort of price?

Any extra 5 people isnt hard to find if they are slightly cheaper and better quality.

Just a thought.

I havent got any free cash till after christmas at least so im out at the minute.

Worth keeping this topic alive though.

I agree. If the quality is higher than JKD, then I'm VERY interested. Even if the price is higher. I want good quality gears, not cheap ones. If I would I'd buy mine from Minisport.
