Hi can anyone help my carb keeps loosing its oil I rebuilt it before I instaled it but the kit didnt have any parts for the oil pot.

How fast is it using the oil?

And what oil are you putting in it?

It is using the oil in around 200 miles I have used the proper su oil and many other oils eg 10/40 15/50 streght 20 - 30 - 40 I work in a motorbike shop so oil isnt a problem.

does sound a bit OTT. how much are you filling it up to?

try 20/50?

I fill it up to the top of the piston chamber but sometimes after only 100 miles the car has a flat spot and I check the carb and there isnt any damping.

I've not a clue why some carbs tend to lose the oil... It is one of those many mysteries that always will be...

I use the thickest oil I can find - Valvoline 20/50 is my favourite. I found SU damper oil was too light.

My carb uses a lot of oil even using 20/40 treacle!

I assumed its just worn out after covering its fair share of miles.

On long journeys I often have to stop and refil - especially if they are stop start journeys

My brother had a brand-new HIF6 carb at his n/a engine. This new part lost the oil the first time. A big blue cloud of smoke was abruptly getting out of exhaust and the damper oil was away.

After a few hundred kilometers it was OK. No problems since then. He uses 15/40. Very cryptic! :cool:
