Can any one help. I am looking for the dimensions of the large shoulder bolt and washer that retains the hardy spicer output flange onto the diff output shaft. I am primadally after the length of the threaded portion, and, the length and diameter of the shoulder under the head of the bolt. Also the OD, ID and thickness of the big washer.

I swear blind that Somerford Minis had these, but they are out of stock, Minispares dont list them and Moss are just useless. I intend to get a bush and washer made up to replicate the original bolt with just an ordinary bolt. I have been using an ordinary bolt and radius arm thrust washer, but its not ideal. I need to get this sorted, as they have been weeping oil.

Thanks

Sprox :)

leeds/wakefield.

iv'e just taken a nut and washer off a box i have , the nut is the same as the rear hub retainer, IE 5/8unf slot nut, and the washer looks similar and is 1.250" OD 0.650" ID and 0.125"" thick,
but from your description what i have may be none origional,

if they are weeping oil it may be because they are nearly 50 years old and will be pitted on the lip seal joint, even with new seals they will start weeping quite quickly.

Carl, the Hardy spicer is a bolt, the nuts are for the rubber yokes.

The seals were new last year, but like any new rubber, its probibly shite. The small rubber boot - perrished, new last year. The selector shaft rubber boot - perrished, new last year. Uprated rubber tie bar bushes - perished, new last year. top and bottom side mount radiator bushes - perished, new last year. I have not checked anything else yet, but I won't hold my hopes up, that anything else won't be cracked and split!!

Oh, and to add, the rubber yoke output SHAFT is of a similar design to the pot joint shaft in that it narrows after the splines and before the bush journal, where as, the hardy spicer shaft is has the same girth along its length

The old rubber couplings used a castle nut and big washer per side to retain the output 'flange (yoke)' onto the output shaft (the bit in the diff with the beval gear on the end)

The hardy spicer output flange is retained by a large special shouldered bolt, spring washer, big flat washer, rubber seal and two collets per side.

I'm afraid all of the ones I've got are hidden between HS joints.
I'll have a look, but I'm not sure.

Couldn't you buy one from Minispares?

Vegard, the part number in that link for the bolt relates to the seal and NOT the bolt, so either the description is wrong or the part number is. I will phone them, but I reckon its going to be the right part number and the wrong description, considering no one anywhere actualy lists the bolts other than Somerfords.

Carnforth, Lancs

The description says it is the seal (for the output bolt).
