Hi, I have been offered a freshly rebuilt NA 1293 but ideally I want to go turbo in the future, is this possible and if so what would I need in order to do the change.

Unfortunately I don't know the exact spec of the engine.

Any help appreciated

cheers Graham

Ha, really you need to know the spec of the engine before anything else.

The best thing to do is have a read, there is lots of information out there.

Then come back with specific questions. Nobody will be able to help you unless you can tell us what pistons you are using, what head you have, how much power you want etc etc

Also, try and ignoire the people being tw@s. We're all hear to help, but only if you show that you are willing to try and help yourself first.

Have a read of this

& this

Both links cover turbo/na differences etc.As other people have said you need to put up your current spec as that dictates what components you will need to change, same for how much power and boost you want to run as again that will determine which of your current components are suitable to be re-used.

Cheers Ross.

thanks for the replies, i had looked at these links previously but as these dealt with a 1275 and the engine that i have been offered is a 1293 i thought i had better ask.

as regards the engine i know very little about it other than it has been refurbed, it is listed on ebay item number 140392398448, does this look decent value for money?

I am also about as much of a newbie to engine building as you can get so forgive me if i dont quite know what all the terminology is.

My intention is to finish my project (full rebuild, respray, etc) and fit the standard 998 and build the turbo to fit at a later date.

cheers graham

sorry to be so blunt, but if you dont know what you have, how can anyone advise you if its ok to use on a turbo engine or not?

try asking the engine builder/reconditioner what components/spec the engine is. that will give you a starting point, but to be brutally honest, theres really nothing that you can ask that hasnt been before, so do a search and come back with specific questions and people will help.

so far, this is an entirely pointless thread

That ebay ad tells you fubar all about whats in the engine so you have no chance of getting the info you are after from here!

As for value for money who knows! It could be an all singing all dancing engine or a piece of shite.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Re - Value for money?

If i was looking for an n/a engine then i would want to see some proof of spec on what i was getting for my £800.(It could well be a standard untouched 1275 for all we know).

If i was buying to go turbo then personally i wouldnt go for it,especially without a spec as you could well end up spending as much on it as you would starting with any standard 1275.

Cheers Ross.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I have used frangible many time in my life. Frangible triggers are the glass bulbs you get in sprinkler head. When they get hot in a fire they break and the sprinkler sprinkles.
