Does anybody have a home brew method of getting the inside of a gearbox clean and gleaming? I've got an empty case I want to clean up before I rebuild the box and I am struggling to find anywhere local to get it cleaned. |

Shove it in the dishwasher if it will fit, sure someones had pictures up of stuff they've popped in there before and it came up reasonably well.

de-greaser and a pressure washer worked for me. I did it at a petrol station with their jet wash, but most won't let you do it now On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

Thanks guys. I have already given it a good go with a jet wash, and that got the worst of it off. I'll give elbow grease a go. |

Try brillo pads and another blast out. I guess anything that is good at degreasing and slightly abrasive would work. On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

See if you can find someone to soda-blast it. It will take all the gunk, grease, road grime and any paint off, but will not in anyway harm the casting. When asking around be sure to enquire that they do it dry. Some try to do it wet, to keep the dust down but is way less effective so will cost you more to get a result. |
