Hi guys,

I am having big problems starting my Vmax scart suck through from cold or when left overnight. This is my second attempt with the M45 on 2 different cars and engines. I had the same problem on my other mini.

The only way to get it started is to remove the air filter and spray petrol into the carb and it starts straight away, like magic. The fuel just doesnt like travelling all the way from carb up the inlet pipe and through charger on cranking.

For this build Stuart @ Vmax as made me a shorter length inlet pipe with smaller bore to help with the problem, to increase air speed. I have matched the bore with a recon HIF38 and also tried rebuild HIF44. I also have a high speed geared starter motor to increase cranking speed. Checked timing and advance all spot on, and wide band AFR all look ok.

Once started it runs really well, especially on the sw5 cam, but am about to give in with the idea altogether and go back n/a route.

Looking on other forums this seems a common problem, anybody got ideas??

Tried full choke, Fuel pressure 3.5psi. There is far more vacum at inlet manifold (head side, after compressor) compared to carb. Dizzy advances far more and car runs better if taken there. I have checked for air leaks and no problems anywhere inc gaskets, vacum take off, carb etc. Will the postive boost damage the vacum unit on aldon dizzy at 10psi?

id put a hole in the bonnet and strap the carb straight on the side of the blower .

Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM

those 2 90degrees bends wont be helping the fuel clime to the blower much, especially at such a low airflow whilst cranking, im with robert im afraid

that link pipe from the carb - charger needs to be straighter

Install fuel injection and bin the carb

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Mine SC setup (sc12) just needs some choke but the inlet is straight. It might be worth moving that fuel pipe. I drilled and tapped the other side of the float bowl so I could put the fuel into the other side of the carb.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
