it's certainly rost welded to studs, I would try to double bolt studs and try to remove them.
good luck, it's not a pleasant job.

I tried to remove all the studs, gave up after two refused to budge.

Might go back to this tomorrow.

We had one like this once, we bolted the head to an engine crane and lifted it :)

Not very sunny swanage

other option is a load of rope into the bores before is turned over.... have had to do that once of twice......

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

That 3m penetration spray has worked wonders in the past for me.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

turn engine over with spark plugs in? compression should pop the head - sorry just read youd already turned it over, scrap that then.

Weld the nuts on the top of the two studs that won't budge (they will be scrap anyway if they are corroded) then use an impact gun to unscrew them. It tends to shake the corossion free.

I've only ever had this problem on aluminium cylinder heads and in both cases they were bolts (not studs/nuts) which made life a lot easier. (ie, I knew they were corroded because they wouldn't unscrew without resorting to the impact gun whereas the rest of the bolts just came out normally).

I had this once, there's a thread on it somewhere, I'll have a search later. The problem is most likely to be th front middle stud as the tolerance on that hole is tighter than the rest. I tried everything listed above with no luck. In the end I had to remove the engine and unscrew the head with the stud still in it, obviously not possible if you've got a second stud stuck in there, then once the head was off I goy my machine shop to press the stud out.

I welded nuts to the studs, one stud snapped, but with enough left for a second go.

two studs still stuck in head, will drift them out later.

cheers
