you will only get a pressure increase when it comes on boost.

If I go up the road it cuts out? Basically the air pressure from the plenum to the pressure regulator isnt there.
Ive tried going up the road and get to about 10mph and it just cuts out. I can blow in the pipe to the pressure reg and get the pressure up to 8psi.

Any ideas?

ok, can you put a pipe onto the plenum ake of and blow through it? if not its blocked and needs clearing.

No I am able to blow through the plenum with no resistance. I tke it there should be a noticeable amount of air coming out at idle?
If not, would the fact I have put the fuel return into the low pressure side of my fuel pump affect anything?

There should be no air coming out of the pipe on the plenum at idle as the engine is under vacuum.

I wouldn't have thought you would notice anything coming out at idle,

your not likley to see any pressure out of there unitil you are doing at least 2500 rpm with a decent load on the engine ie when it starts making boost.

I would be temped to drop the pipe off between the turbo and plenum (so it's running N/A) and try it like that if it still does it it suggests its not the reg.

oh and the return feed back into the low pressure side of the pump should be fine as long as all the hoses are large enough.

ok, so if i remove the pipe and run it N/A and its still faulty, what could the fault be?

if you've (or someone else) had the plenum of of the carb the holes from the plenum to the dashpot could be blocked (there are some dodgy gaskets with out the holes iirc)

no oil in the dashpot

timing,

has the engine been running ok previously?

ive made the whole in the gasket to pressureize the carb, (pos blocked carb?)

oil in dashpot yes
and timing seems to be fine

ive only just fitted the engine, its a learning curve

ah, you seem to have an idea what your doing, :)

it may be worth popping the reg apart, the diaghrams can split which will screw the regulation up.

unfortunatly I'm not really an expert on the boosted carbs,

ive checked my reg by blowing down the tube, i could rasise the pressure from 4 to 7 psi so im assuming thats all fine there as if the diaghram was split it wouldent raise at all and if id did it wouldent stay raised.

That will do it. Reconnect it or block both ends.

Mine split once and caused the exact problem you describe.

Pre Vert Fly, backplate, pressure plate, clutch plate and arm. Best get one second hand and move on from there. You could do an RTS conversion.

1/4 Mile 14.3secs 96Mph Terminal 10psi of boost.

As above but if you get second hand you'll most likely have to use an inertia starter as the pre-vertos have a different ring gear.
If you buy new, ie. a lightweight one, most of the suppliers offer them with the option of a pre-engaged ring gear rather than the inertia type.

Is it a turbo clutch?

My standard turbo verto was fine up to 12psi.

also if you convert from verto to pre verto or viseversa, then your wiring will need to be altered too, so stick with the same style as what you have already got to make it easier, and if you ever get a problem whereby when it comes on boost and its misfirey then that could be the fuel pump, as i had this problem when i forgot to turn the pump on once when i started my car :) it ran fine and never cut out but just diddnt work on boost because of the fuel pump not being on LOL! doh..
