police give me a ticket for breath filter. he said its should go to inlet. i dont want pay ticket again, but i cannt put the pipe to inlet as its turbocharged, even using the one way valve, oil still will leak from timing cover.

Appeal! He's full of shit! Ask them to provide documented proof of which rule/regulation you have violated and exactly how it applies to your car.

Have you had it MOTed with the current engine fitted? If so that should cover the 'legality' of the breather filter. Our metro van certainly passed with 2 fitted.

Venting any breathers to atmosphere is illegal, and will ( ie should ) fail MOT.
Just because the MOT people dont always spot it, doesnt change that.

With a proper oil/air separator or catch can, you can easily re-route it back into the intake. It isnt difficult.

Stick a blocked pipe to your inlet system from your catch tank. Leave a filter on the catch tank to actually vent it, and job done.

Edit: I can't find anything in the MOT testers manual about crankcase breather systems, so I don't see how it can be an MOT failure point. Of course that doesn't stop it from being illegal.

if you read what I said. A proper air/oil seperator style catch can can easily be re-circulated back into the intake. Obviously it will not vent to atmos then.

I had cars fail on it some 15 years ago. So its definately an issue. That said, in more recent years Ive had cars pass too. Just depends if the tester actually has a clue about what he's testing or not.

Many dont....hence you'll pass lol.

I find the whole thing silly, why not worry about cars with no insurance? far more of a concern to the general public.

When I got pulled, I made damn sure I got out the car and approached the copper - so he didn't get the chance to poke round my engine bay/car. There were probably plenty of irregularities!

Most Aston Martins vent to atmosphere as standard. Where does that stand on legality?

I seriously doubt it!

At what age ?

Not a chance of a modern car venting to atmos.

I dont think ive seen a production car ever that has vented them to atmos. And thats including cars from the 70's. Havent seen to many much older than that

A DB5 for example, http://www.motorwayltd.com/images/1965Asto...inDB5engine.jpg

See the round caps in the middle of the cam covers? that tube coming off them hangs down under the engine and vents to atmosphere.

I seriously doubt it!

does it not depend on when car/engine was built. My Midas, being a 'Q' plate comes under pre '73 regs.... so as an example it only has to pass the visible smoke test for exhaust emissions....which basically means it can run however I want.
