Hi,

When I lifted the false floor out of the drivers side of the car there was a bit of surface rust from water sitting in there over time.

This mostly cleaned away no problem but there is a small area of pitting to one side of the pressed area. The pitting isnt very deep (i would guess about 0.3mm or so) and to my mind its not deep enough to warrant cutting it out.

What would be the best way of dealing with this?I had planned to clean it all up,put some rust converter type jollop on it and then body solder the area to fill in the pitting.

Not sure if thats the best option though so any advise welcome.

Cheers Ross.

Has it been repaired previously? There looks to be a weld line just to the right of the left hand bung hole.

How thick is the panel 0.7mm? If so you're nearly half way through the metal already. Personally, I'd cut it out and repair it while the car is in pieces. No matter what you put on it, it will still rust eventually and need welding.

if its the original panel I'd treat it with rust converter and paint it; hard to tell how bad it is without seeing it in the flesh though

It's certainly a repair panel in there, just look at the top edge in the first photo.... Five stitch welds and the rest is not great.

But, as said by others, hard to tell how bad from just general photos. Need some close-ups.

I get the feeling the repair is the bottom of the bulk head rather than the floor pan, i think i can see more stick welds running from the right up on a diagonal? if your are a confident welder i would cut it out.

is the welding not due to strengthening works?

clean it with a wire wheel in a angle grinder (if thats not what youve done already) treat it with one of the above mentioned products. will need patching one day but depending on use that may be a few years

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Yes,yes and yes to the above, the floor panel is the original but stitched to the front bulkhead & flitch panels as well as the original spot welds.

Might just cut it out, couldnt get an easier section to repair to be fair - probably just being a lazy sod!

Cheers Ross.

Once rust has gotten to a panel no matter what you do it will come back.
Best option is to spot blast the whole area and paint.
Forget all these rust treatments they are a stop gap at best and total crap for the most part.
