As above, It turns out my layshaft is the 3 step type, and the 2 spares I have are the 2 step type...typical. Has anyone got one is good condition?

Have a look on Ebay for the Keyway. I'm after one an they seemed to be a fair bit cheaper on there then minispares/sport.

I have one layshaft of the type that I think is what you mean by 3 step which has the tiniest beginnings of pitting - I'll photo later (need to charge my camera batteries).

No grooves or I wouldn't have even kept it (it came out of a box I bought only for the later casing).

Matty, with your expected hp and torque I would buy the Swiftune Key (you wont be able to use the bolt though), its not a verto one, but it won't matter.

Couldn't get the macro to work right on the camera (possibly too shiney?) so put on my A4 scanner...

To be honest Rod, both my spare ones had the same pitting at the end, it was unmeasurable with a mic so wasn't bothered. Mine has a groove in the centre of the large diameter bit right where the bearing has been running.

Im guessing its going to be better than a new one from minispares? An interesting question... Certainly some of the older stuff (even when worn) is better than the new "copies" but it's hard to be specific on a single item (hence my comment about has anyone else got a view on this). I'm using all pre-A-plus gear trains in my gearboxes because I think the material is better and the helix angles are better so, as I said, this came out of a gearbox that I only bought for the later (stronger) casing. So it's a bit unknown but if you want it, just cost of postage as the small beginnings of pitting are just visible. But if someone has an old one that is perfect (gold dust???) I won't be offended :) Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ??? |

Ah ive just re-read your original post. I thought you meant the pitting on the end, hmm I see what you mean about the pitting on the bearing surface, I missed that first time round. Edited by matty on 22nd Apr, 2010. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fusion-Fabri..._homepage_panel

The ebay one will be a MiniSpares one - he is a biggish customer of MSNorth. Buys from MS and then sells with a healthy mark up on ebay (although with their fees now that can't be profitable!).
