I am looking at the 5/6 speed gearboxes from www.vmaxscart.co.uk
And he needs to know what my final drive is at the moment

I have a 1990 stardard 1275 engine and box?

P.s He asks me how much lower i need the final drive. It will be on a 5 speed box first 4 are sc and the 5 is a 37% overdrive helical ??????

Different engines were fitted with different final drives

e.g
Metro turbo 3.2:1
Most metros 3.44:1
12" wheeled minis 3.1:1

Its impossible to say what diff you've got in your car, unless you are 100% certain that the original gear box is fitted. On a 13 year old car I doubt you can be 100%.

If you select 4th gear and push the car backwards untill the road wheels have done 1 complete revolution, while counting the number of engine rotations you can obtain the diff ratio.
