Gonna bite the bullet and kit myself out with a nice 10t shortly, sick of pikeying bits on/out with the vice/hammer&sockets

Locally they are selling the sealey/yankee 10T badboys for £170 plus vat which seems reasonable compared to the prices online

but for similar money delivered, ive spotted these 'c type' presses:

these much cop? look to have alot better access and will take up a bit less space on the bench?
I wont be using it for anything too hardcore, just bearing races, suspension bushes, 2 stroke cranks, etc

Cheers

Joe

I bought a cheapy 30T press off ebay a few years ago for under £100

Its basically a big frame with a massive bottle jack lol No pressure gauge.

That said, its big, bulky and seems strong. Only one complaint is that due to the design, the working platform is quite low. So you tend to kneel down when using it.

Ideally it would be mounted on a plinth or frame maybe 18"-24" higher than its own frame stand.

speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

ive got the sealey version of the top one at work, identical just different stickers. not a bad press only down side is that the frame isn't perfectly straight and its leaking like a bitch at the moment. never the less pressed some wheel bearings in the other day and worked a treat

Can any one tell me why they are so expensive?

A press would be incredibly handy but dont want to pay that much for a bottle jack and a few bits of iron

I fear it would result in accidental death!

We have made two now, one for the home workshop and one for the work one. I only have a pic of the home one as i just ran out and took it, pretty simple to make and ours can press 16t if i remeber correctly, although that might be the slightly larger one at the other shop.

Now thats an impressive bit of kit, especially with all the adjustability built in.

I bet it took more than a weekend to make though.

It was probably two weeks of evening work. But things like milling the groves in the press shaft wernt really necaserry, which I learnt on the second one. I'll try and get some pictures of that tomorrow.
