hi, i just need a bit of confirmation. i have been offered a 1300 gt close ratio a series gearbox. its the 4 syncro type.

am i right in thinking that i can just build this gearset into an a plus gearbox, as long as i use the bearings to match the gearset?

im guessing th selectors etc will be the same

i also realise i will have to use a plus drops with the a plus gearcasing.

thanks in advance.

yes, it will go,

only problem may be getting the main shaft assy in,

the A series as a smaller diameter but wider bearing between the 1st and 3rd motion shafts, as a result the case is notched slightly so get it in, can be done to the A+ case with a file.

This only applies to the 3sync boxes.

Remember that the remote reverse idler won't fit in the rod box.

A mate of me had to enlarge the slot over the 1st motion's bearing to put a 14mm pre-A+ mainshaft into a late A+ gearbox (DAM5626)? http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/2051/dscf0005qu9.jpg - or am I missunderstanding something here? :)

But maybe he's lucky and got one of those very late GT boxes with 2 step layshaft & 18mm nose bearing (DAM3168 laygear) :)

MiniSpares sell conversion bearings with a sleeve to run pre A+ idler gears with a A+ case. http://minispares.com/Product.aspx?ty=pb&pid=38305

If you decide that the 1300GT 'box is unsuitable for your purposes (i.e. won't go into an A+ casing) would you consider parting with it ?
I am going to be building an engine & gearbox for a friend with a 1300 estate and it would be ideal for that.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

The A mainshaft is indeed longer, but there shouldn't be a problem. I cannot recall I had difficulties at least.

Those 5626 casting seem to 'fluctuate' quite a bit anyway :) There are probably some you get away with, and with some you don't. Interesting.

cheers chaps. will be collecting it in the next few months, when i get time. i will let you know how it goes when the time comes to put it into the later a plus casing.

as for selling it, i have been looking for one of these for some time, therefore will be hanging onto it for now. thanks

Im running an A gearset in an A+ box. The cutout doesn't need to be all that big, this is mine.
