on mk1's the vin no was usually just above the rad in case you missed it.

just a plain ally plate riveted on with a number on it, nothing else,

If you dont know the reg or chassis number you have no hope. Only option is to get a V5 from somewhere else.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

When you say the number doesn't mean anything, have you tried this site
http://www.minimania.com/web/SCatagory/Gen...rticleV.cfm#top

The early formats were very different to modern VIN numbers.

Also, DVLA are hopeless at keeping accurate records especially if it's a number in a previous format - they have "lost" a letter in the middle of my chassis number during the change to the new style V5C and when I sent it in for an engine number change they typed it in wrong - so if you are trying to get DVLA to recognise your number you may have to try a few permutations.

I think my Mini had the chassis no stamped where the rubber sits in front of the scuttle panel, under the bonnet ?

Although I suspect thats a more modern thing

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
