on mk1's the vin no was usually just above the rad in case you missed it.

If you dont know the reg or chassis number you have no hope. Only option is to get a V5 from somewhere else. Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

I think my Mini had the chassis no stamped where the rubber sits in front of the scuttle panel, under the bonnet ?
9.85 @ 145mph
