Hello,

i would like to replace the standerd copper lines in the enginebay to braided ones. But does any one know the thread size of a master clutch cilinder, master brake cilinder (yellow tag) and the brake splitter(if that is the correct name....)

Mini spares does not have a kit for it, but i can let the lines made but i need a thread size for the correct bolt.

Gegroet Jochen

So far as i'm aware (and others may correct me) everything is 3/8" UNF EXCEPT the yellow tag master cylinder which is M10 and M12 (both metric fine thread).

But please let someone else confirm this.

Although I certainly would want long runs of braided hose for such important things like brakes.

Use quality solid brake lines and only use flexible where necessary.

lots of people seem to feel that way steve, and can understand why in my head, but i bought a full brake set up off a miglia a few years back, which had 100% braided lines, its on my car now, and my brakes are spot on, the lines dont try to snake or flex at all when under pressure?

flex is one aspect, and as you say probably not an issue, as the hose rating likely exceeds any pressures it will ever see.

But I suspect from a point of view of mechanical damage, heat resistance, and general longivity. Solid pipes would be much better.
And some braided hoses can easily hide internal damage. OK on short stretches of hose that can easily be inspected. But maybe not so easy on long sections.

Not even sure if it would be an MOT issue having flexibles througout ?

No issue for MOT, I've been MOT'ing a car with braided lines throughout for years.

I can understand the feeling regarding damage, but then again the same can go for hidden lengths of steel solid pipe rotting away merrily where they cannot be seen!

that and we dont have mot's over here helps lol

i run my lines internally, so little chance of them getting damaged/wearing, but braking performance wise, i think its a myth that if you use just hose then you will get a spongy pedal etc

Is this a kit or made for the car? Piccie possible*happy*

I don't see a real problem with braided hoses. There are on many motorcycles with no problems.

I can order them but they need to know which size bolts i need through the banjo. Lenght wise it up to what i want*tongue*
