1st to provide proof of a running Bimmy Conversion!

Brisbane ,Australia

Ok,,, so i`ve been on about it for about 30 years,,, but now it`s time to actually add some numbers to this page to let John-K know that there is enough interest to get off his bum & make them yeah? If i got my local CNC guy to make them we`d have them ready in about 2050 AD (maybe)

"IF" they were reasonably priced (Joke),,, who would buy a set???

+1 for me & i`ll have the top of the block blank thanks (as in no head stud , push rod, or water holes) I already know (& have) the head i`ll use *smiley*

who`s next ??? ---> Carl,, you`d have to take at least 2x sets yeah? *smiley*

Rightyo,,, who`s next??? common,,, don`t be shy

An alternative gearbox would be a better idea to be honest.

Why would anyone be interested in mods like this when engine conversions would be so much cheaper and easier. You may claim loyalty to the A-Series, but what is A-Series about a car with a different head, block, crank and gearbox?

If anyone can lay their hands on the original drawings I'll put a proposal together - we'll need one of the "big" suppliers with a heritage account to get the original drawings freed up

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

up the bore / stroke but still 'A' series ish style/ looking /maybe not many people could tell maybe 1.5, 1.6l?

tbh i think recasting the 1275 block 3 mains for decent money would be a wise move, how hard / rare / expensive is a trashed 1275 unit to get nowadays?

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

I would quite like an improved gearbox casing

I cant see why someone isnt casting blocks already, I suppose there is still enough of a supply for it not to be a problem

Whats up with the casing?

I seriously doubt it!

I think there are merits in a 5 bearing block from the point of view of utilising current tehnology materials, bearings, pistons etc and also to refine the whole deal and like Matt says cover the options people want, 5 port, K, blank top etc.

Gearbox casings - I don't think theres a massive problem with the casings other than supply of good usable parts - its the strength of the gear cluster/bearings and number of ratios in there thats the main problem I think

I think one of the big suppliers will start casting iron blocks soon

So this is something seriously getting ready to go down? An alloy block with 5 mains? I wasn't sure at first. I'm more interested in the fact that it's alloy, which is a huge weight savings... You could count me in for one, if you could get me a final price.

How many people have had a casing crack?

I seriously doubt it!

There are some things in this very very small mini world that we live in, that very few people know about,,, & as much as the internet has drawn us all closer together... & yes there certainly are obviously some people who think they know what everyone is doing,,, Ha!!!

some people actually keep secrets till the time is right *smiley*

Edit* Oooh sneaky edit, your post was ten times longer than that

Why not CAD a similar one up ourselves? Anyone know enough about copyrights to see how close we can go? ie does a 5 bearing crank and block that has the same external features as an a series breach the copyright?

In boost we trust
