I have a 1990 mini with the standard '88 on servo master cylinder (green band), front to rear split lines, and the standard PDWA valve.

I'm wishing to remove the servo and replace it with this dual line master cylinder fitted to the bulkhead: http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?ty=pb&pid=36659

Am i correct in thinking that the green and yellow band master cylinders are the same bore and so can be swapped straight over?

Also am i right in thinking the brake pedal needs to be changed to run the vertical master cylinder? Because the control rod on the pedal can't be removed? or can this be cut off and a clevis pin used in the hole?

Thanks
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

not sure about the master cylinder tag colours/ interchangeability, but the servo brake pedal has a larger clevis pin hole than the non-servo.

Which boils down to you needing a non-servo brake pedal (or pedal box) or a bush to adapt the servo pedal to accept your master cylinder. I opted for the new [non-servo] pedal box.

Does the whole pedal box need changing or just the actual pedal itself? I haven't got one to hand at the momment so i can't check

I'm not aware of anyone ever having just changed the pedal, but it's probably possible. Chances are though, that you're more likely to be able to pick up a complete non-servo pedal box than just the brake pedal alone.

If you're going to go to the effort of messing with the pedal alone, you're probably better off just re-engineering the 'servo pedal perhaps?

Yea that was my thoughts too, i was just going to remove the pedal, weld then re-drill, or alternatively weld a sleeve in the hole.

I just need to find out if the cylinder bores are identical now.

Anyone any ideas?

I used the yellow tag master without any issues. I replaced just the pedal as well.

You will also need to change the steady bracket that fits under both master cylinders with a non servo item too

Retain the valve on the bulkhead though as its not a PDWA (Pressure Differential Warning Actuator) it is infact a pressure reducing valve.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
