hi peeps couple of questions

how do i go about working out what my final drive ratio is as i dont have a clue

what would you recommend as the correct ratio for the best of both worlds acceleration and crusing

also will a helictal pinion and crwon wheel take the kind of punishment my supercahrged 1380 is likely to throw at it

cheers for any info

alex

There is a thread discussing all about this at the moment. Do a search for "Final Drives" or similar.

Totally depends on what your five speed is - i'll assume it's an overdrive? Even so, you need to find out what kind of overdrive ratio before being able to calculate anything for the 5th gear...

For 10" wheels, don't go higher than a 3.44:1, for 13" don't go higher than a 3.6:1.

I'm sure no-one will disagree when i say Matt Woods has the most powerfull turbo mini out there, and I'm sure he uses a 2.95 diff, which can only be a 'factory cut' helical gear... Should be proof enough for you!

I've got one of the very early JKD 5speed S/C boxes on a 1450 with 100hp at the wheels and it's sofar lasted more that 10 years touch wood.

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe.
