We're looking at 2 or 3 nights tenting in Soctland at the back end of August. Does anybody have any recommendations of good sites?

Nothing too fancy, but needs to have better facilities than Avon *smiley*
Hoping to go somewhere vaguely coastal and south of Dundee, either east or west coast.

costal = freezing, would you settle for loch side? only real issue is going to be the midgees!

I don't get on with midges. Did the Yorkshire 3 peaks last year, had over 250 big red/purple blotchy bites when I got home.

I thought the whole point of camping was that you got col, wed and thoroughly miserable.

you need avon skin so soft (its a moisturiser, but also the best midge repellant there is! a BBQ, some mosqueto/midgee stick things(like huge candles that smoke a bit), crate of beer and a quiet loch for the win!

how fancy is to fancy? plenty of palces around here with indoor pools and huge bars.

Plus the interior light will attract the midges...

We've booked this place now.

Relativly cheep for the area and each tent spot as a camp fire *smiley*

I must be an old fashioned mountain man or something. I see camping on here, or hear the word around work and my first thought is 10 mile hike in, only what you got on your back and a 10 mile hike to the nearest person... Then I see the site you booked and think, that's a hotel isn't it? *wink*

lol. I don't mind a bit of walking, but the wife won't walk far carrying a crate of beer...

A crate?
Thats a serious ration.
And i prefer camping to be getting into 4wds and driving miles up the beach off road and camping where you like. And you can fit more beer then.

plenty of stunning free camping if you go up north, particularly on the islands off the west coast
