Finally got round to making a start on the exhaust manifold and I am quite pleased at how it has turned out so far :)

Just need to wait for the glue to set *hehe!*

Not quite an octopus*tongue*

That looks great Colin. Will you be welding the flanges directly to the pipes or will you be attaching them in a way that allows them to rotate?

The 'flanges' will be free to rotate. They are mild steel.

Good work.

I better get the final bit of the jigsaw in the post.

Stephen Hawking - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge."

Beautiful! The parts mating with the gasket surface look classy

Looks really good. So the turbo goes above, I'm guessing to save on bulkhead mod's. Where's the downpipe going to run from the turbo?

That's a really good job Colin,

I like the way they come together, lookslike it should flow well :)

I have not worked that out yet. I might have to modify the engine steady bar, but until I get the manifold welded, and the dummy engine in the car, i'm not going to think about it. I need to squeeze a 2.25" downpipe between the manifold and steady bar*oh well*

Yes the aim was to make the manifold as compact as posible but at least look like it would work. I had been toying with the idea of a log manifold for the simplicity, but, I intend to have a play with ALS for fun, so thought it better to have something that looks like it flows better.

runners 1 and 4 were fairly easy, it was 2 and 3 that were a bit of a bastard, not wanting to fuck up the tube bends, I made each middle runner in two peices, and shaped a crown like piece to fit. There is a bit of a gap where those two pieces come together, but i'll ask my welder if he can fil the gap before I spend another two hours shaping new ones*oh well* All the other joints come together neatly and all the welds have pretty good access.

Just need to work out an order of welding *hehe!* First is to get the stubs welded to the runners, so they can be bolted to the head and then adjust and cheat the rest of it

Don't know if it's applicable to the routing you're going to be trying Colin, but Micron used to make headers for motorcycles with a flattened profile, which they reckoned helped flow as well as fitting into a tighter space. They were called 'serpent' headers I think.

Here you go:

Welding done. The flange needs a skim to flatten it off again, there is about a 0.5mm bow in it and the internal tube needs a little cleaning up here and there. The 2.25" downpipe will fit nicely down past the manifold and engine steady, thats the next welding puzzle *hehe!*

In hind sight, I could have made the manifold a little longer before contact with the bulkhead, and that would have given me a bit more room for the compresor discharge, but there you go, maybe next time *hehe!*

Looking very nice, fancy making me one?!

Are you going to fit an external wastgate, or stick with the internal one?

Also with my turbo flange I just flatted the meddle off a bit with a file and used a copper gasket, so you get a "ring" of high pressure on the gasket.b

Looking good. I had to skim the flange on my manifold too, not the nicest thing to do on stainless.
