Wondered if anyone on here could recommend a good freeview recorder? Im after one with uPnP connectivity to connect to a NAS drive, with possible VGA output. Ive seen the 3view one but its 300 and i could get bloody virgin hd for less.

A long shot but this forum has its fair share of boffins

Have a look at dreambox's. I use one for satellite, pretty sure they do a freeview version. Mine does everything you require.

while i was browsing i came across an article about what your on about and it seemed that it was a premium thing to have and only the dog bollocks ones had it i.e spensive...

maybe wait a few months and let it filter down as demand rises?

I refuse to conform to social trends! Like you say hopefully the cost will drop over time, i might just stick with a normal freeview box for the time being!

Could you just stick a decent telly card in a computer?

Have you looked at HUMAX? Most of the good features are on the Free Sat not the free view though. But mine is 4 years old so I am not fully up to date on the current specs.

Yes, these appear to be my only current option, it might be worth me getting a sattelite and running one of these tbh!

I just found the freeview dreambox's.

The equivilant of mine is the DM800T HD PVR
You can easily swap the tuner to a satellite or cable one and if your a bit techno savvy you can get alot of additional "features"

Also there is a difference between freesat, freesat from sky and free to air.

To get the newish freesat service you need one of the official boxes otherwise you won't get the epg.

I use windows media centre on windows 7, and have a pair of media centre extenders in the workshop and bedroom. Have 4 digital teristial tuners and 2 sky tuners, works great

too much technology gets in the way sometimes, but the X10 homeautomation is pretty cool, turning on light when you walk into a dark room, control heating in house and workshop etc.

As Ben says, The Humax Freesat HD is really good. It has got the best iPlayer of the ones I've got (Wii,PS3) and you can run an external hard drive for back ups. Seems more stable than my Freeview player (which is the same age as Ben's). I think the freesat picture is a better quality. All you need is a multi lnb on your dish (minimum 2, but I've got a 4).

I'm using the ethernet port on the back to hook up to the internet, for the iplayer. I've never tried it for anything else.

Here is the user manual:

http://www.humaxdigital.com/global/product...10-0128_low.pdf

Although I think it is already behind the times, as it has got the ethernet listed as for future use!
